This is both a counter and an attack, Saito says "When your opponent thrusts, you step to the side and bring the jo up in a circular thrust."
Begin in left hanmi as in the first jo suburi. Grasp the top of the jo with your right hand, thumb downwards. Once again move off the line-of-attack to the left—you should finish in left hanmi at an angle of 20-30 degrees from the line of attack. As you move to the left, make a circular motion with your right hand and thrust towards the opponent. The thrust finishes with your right hand palm-up on your sternum and your left hand on top of the jo. Expel your breath explosively as the thrust is performed.
