Facing north initially (n,s, etc indicate ending direction)
- ready position, thrust tsuki, return to upper guard (n)
- thrust tsuki, return to upper guard (n)
- step through, switch hands, right yokomen (n)
- release left hand to make big U with tip while sliding left off line,
tip then comes down on opponent's right wrist (ne)
- step with left foot and strike right yokomen (n)
- change hands and repeat 1 (n)
- turn to right 180°, strike left yokomen (same as 3) (s)
- same as 4 (s)
- same as 5 (s)
- same as 6 (s)
- same as 7 (s)
- turn 45° to left and to rear, tsuki with ishizuki between eyes
- turn 45° to right, change hands and tsuki with ishizuki to forehead
- keep turning 180° to right and then step forward and tsuki with kissaki
and return to upper guard.
- turn 180° step with right foot and strike left yokomen
- swing 180° to right, step forward and continue until facing north, raise jo to guard
- drop arms, slide left, change hands move kissaki in a "U" to avoid shomen attack
- tsuki to opponents face with kissaki
- repeat 5
- change hands and tsuki to chest with kissaki
- let jo slide through hands and step forward with right foot as
the ishizuki strikes chin in upper cut
- let go with left hand and tsuki to throat with kissaki
Jo kata #2. Version Used in AAA. Kiai on # 7, 15, and 22.
Facing north initially (n,s, etc indicate ending direction). In this kata, all overhead strikes are
shomen. The first two movements are the same as jo kata #1.
1. ready position, thrust tsuki, return to upper guard (n)
2. thrust tsuki, return to upper guard (n)
3. step through, switch hands, move to R, shomen (n) from R side of line of attack
4. make big, sweeping U with tip while sliding left off line, tip then comes down on
opponent's right wrist (ne). Hold jo w/ both hands throughout.
5. step with left foot and strike right (left?) shomenuchi (n)
6. change hands and repeat 1 (n poke)
7. turn to right 180á, strike shomenuchi from L of line (same as 3) (s)
8. same as 4 (make big U with tip while sliding left off line, tip then comes down on
opponent's right wrist)
9. same as 5 (step with left foot and strike right shomenuchi)
10. same as 6 (change hands and repeat 1) Pivot & shomen
11. same as 7 (turn to right 180á, strike shomenuchi from L of line)
12. turn 45á to left and to rear, tsuki with ishizuki at knee level
13. turn 45á to right, change hands and tsuki with ishizuki to at knee level
14. keep turning 180á to right and then step forward and tsuki with kissaki and return
to upper guard. (In other words, pivot & poke straight to rear of room)
15. turn 180á step with right foot (2 steps fowd) and strike left shomen . Kiai.
16. swing 360á to right, continue until facing north, raise jo to hasso no kamae
17. drop arms, slide left, move kissaki in a "U." Uppercut as step fwd w/ RF.
18. tsuki to opponents face with kissaki
19. repeat 5 (step with left foot and strike right (left?) shomenuchi)
20. change hands and tsuki to chest with kissaki
21. let jo slide through hands and step forward with right foot as the ishizuki strikes at
ukeÃÂs chin in upper cut
22. let go with left hand, grasp opposite end of jo with L hand, keeping R hand at
center of jo and tsuki to throat with kissaki . Kiai.
