Fred Phillips and Scott Prahl started the OGI Aikido Club in the
beginning of 1996. With a loan from the OGI administration we bought
mats to practice on in the OGI cafeteria. We have been practicing
each Monday and Wednesday evening since the mats arrived.
OGI Aikido is one of two clubs at OGI (The other is the renowned OGI
Glee Club). The OGI aikido club is one of the many clubs associated with the Aikido Association of America. The OGI Aikido
club is one of several Portland area aikido dojos.
The main class is on Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-7:30pm in the OGI
cafeteria. This is typically taught by Fred Phillips. If he is busy
then Scott Prahl fills in. On a more erratic/eclectic/esoteric basis,
he may teach an advanced class from 7-8pm immediately after the main class.
Please show up on time so that you can help carry the mats downstairs
and assemble them for class. This sounds like a hassle and it is, but
on the other hand the OGI cafeteria is a wonderful place to practice due to
its high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows on three walls.
You should also read these common sense guidelines
and aikido etiquette at least once as well as
why we bow to each other.
Oh yeah, dues are $10/month ($20/month for those not affiliated with OGI)
and are collected at the beginning of each month. These are some of the lowest
monthly dues you are likely to find, due to the fact
that you don't have to pay rent and you don't pay the instructors.
New students may begin at any time, so show up and join the fun! Why? Well...
