A prototype polarization camera.

Comparison of white light versus polarization images.

A benign pigmented nevus

nevus
(LEFT: white light image. RIGHT: polarization image)
Polarization image removes the melanin, and shows apparent scatter from nevus structure. Work continues on discriminating reflectance from melanosomes versus reflectance from nonpigmented nevus structure. Notice the drop in polarized light reflectance from epidermis lining the hair follicles.
