Example spectra: esophageal cancer

Examples of spectra using the two probes, and the curve fits to those spectra are shown.

Esophageal probe

Experimental measurement (open circles) and model fit (solid line) of NORMAL TISSUE.

Same for TUMOR TISSUE.

Tumor Tissue site with very strong absorption in the 500-600 nm range. Data was truncated at 600 nm and the same algorithm was used with ms' assumed to be the average of other tumor sites in the same patient. Also shown in (c) are the limiting cases of 100% oxygenated and 100% deoxygenated blood. Circles are experimental measurements. Solid lines are predicted measurements based on light transport theory. Dashed lines are predicted measurements if tissue were bloodless. fv denotes volume fraction of blood.
